 Tempe Beach 1953. Thats me sitting in the lap of Howard 'Barney' Bernard. His wife Vida was the librarian at Tempe High and then moved to McClintock in 1965. Barney worked at Tempe Beach after getting out of the Marines. He was seriously wounded on Tarawa. He led the charge to desegregate the city pool after the war.
