Hi All!  I've just been wondering what kinds of hobbies or interests everyone has developed through the years.   In school, it was scholastics, sports and a few clubs.  What holds your interest now?

Riding my horse, NASCAR is great. I have been to three races, twice in Vegas, and once in Fontana. Spent the night each time in a Travel Trailer in the middle of the track. Walking around all the cars. Keeping ear plugs in place.

NASCAR on TV I start the race, then ride Cisco. Go in later and see whats up on the race. Go out work on my toys, then go and check the race on TV again..

Watch Waltrip lose again or not even qualify. I get all my Truck Stuff from NAPA.

Sounds like you get to enjoy two of your loves at the same time!  That's great that you have those interests.  That way, you'll have something to do besides sit in your rocker in a few years!    lol!    I keep as busy as I can so I don't wind up there!    Didn't you ever come to the NASCAR races down here in Avondale?

I moved to Vegas in 1975. I started College at MCC, then finished College in Vegas. They make you take a Nevada History Course. Then I started going to all the places in Nevada I studied. Nevada is almost as great as Arizona. But there is no THS. Tahoe is like Flag, Reno is like Payson, Virginia City is like Jerome, Mesquite is like Holbrook. I have not been south of Tempe in 40 years. Although Avondale is closer then that, it was always a long travel to sit in a higher heat. Fontana you can smell the Ocean Air. I need Ocean Time at least once a year. I enjoyed Vicki Smiths pictures. I totally know whats behind them. I traveled all over that State. It is more than Sage and Sand.

Louie, it's nice to know there are beautiful places in Nevada.  All I ever saw of it was, the desert between Vegas and Ely on my way to Twin Falls, ID.  I lived in southern ID for about 5 yrs. or so.  I did get to see Battle Mountain in the dark when my car broke down and I had to sit for hrs. and wait for a tow truck.  At daylight, they towed it in to Winnemuca.  That was an expensive trip!
Well, hopefully, when I go to Oregon this next week, I'll get to go to the coast and I'll waft some ocean mist your direction!   lol!

OK Carol,
As you drive north on Highway 1 and leaving California. The First Cove you come to in Oregon is 'Elks Cove'. It is one of my favorite places. I was watching the Movie 'Overboard' with Goldie Hawn and realized they used Elks Cove for that Movie.

I remember seeing that movie -- good movie.
By the way, Louie, I've been wondering (prob. since grade school), how did you get the name 'Sonny'?  Don't have to answer if you don't want to.......

My dad n mom called me sonny from birth and it carried into school just like Punky's Story. Now I can not even remember Punky's real name unless some one says it. When I switched from Mitchell to Holdeman I wanted my real name to.

Hey Carol and Louie;

That road 93 going from Vegas to Ely is exactly where I was in those pictures. Lora's ranch starts just about 20 miles N of Pioche and stretches to about 50? miles S of Ely. It takes around an hour to get from one end to the other.

I think it is absolutely gorgeous there. Big Valley surrounded by a ring of mountains.

Vicki,

I worked a serial killer case where the last woman murdered was in Pioche.

The woman they found murdered was drinking at the time when she made a real bad choice in who to drink with.  Get your beer in Kingman and haul ass until you get to Laura's ranch.

Hi Carol Vicki and Bill,
In the 27 years I lived in Vegas I traveled every where in Nevada. One of my favorite times, every year was in August when Reno Hosts an Outdoor Festival called 'Hot August Nights'. Free outdoor concerts like Crosby Stills and Nash, Motorcycles, Antique Cars. The terrain in Reno is like Payson. Pioche is a neat place to. At one time there can be 3 free outdoor concerts going on.

Louie,

I froze my butt one week in Reno.  I did see Gary Puckett getting off of the elevator looking like he needed a little something extra to jump start his next show.

Hey Vicki, Louie and Bill ~
Vicki, how long has your sister had the ranch?  Had I known you were there, I would have stopped to say 'hi'.  Must be a welcome relief from all the congestion and stale air in the valley.  You are sooo blessed to have that opportunity.  Are you a nurse too?

Bill -- yikes, in 73 or so (when did Evel Kinevel try to jump across the Snake River in ID?) we were driving back from ID and the car broke down along the hwy close to nowhere -- small cafe with 4 motel rooms or so -- can't remember all the details.  Anyway, a guy named, 'Forest' stopped and offered to drive my son and I into Ely while my husband worked on the car and tried to get it running.  My husband said, 'yes' and I was totally scared all the way.  He said he was a Vietnam Vet and that he traveled around helping people, etc.  He took us to a steak dinner in Ely and when my husband didn't show up, drove all the way back and found him.  We had spent all the money we had by then.  He paid for our dinner and a room there and just asked to be able to take a shower in our room.  He stayed in his van with his dog and didn't leave us until my brother ran down a part from Twin Falls, ID.  He said that he would just like a nice meal someday and that 'we're all here to help each other' and left.  After we got home, I wrote him a note and never heard from him again.  I've often wondered if he was really an angel or something.  Sounds kinda strange, huh?  I've remembered that and tried to help people when I can.

Louie -- thanks for explaining that.  I vaguely remember you going by both names and some confusion about what your real name was.  I went to Mitchell too, so must have known you clear back then.

Boy! we're all going to have so much to talk about!
Carol

Carol,

Lora and her husband have only had the ranch for a couple of years. They own 2 other places in Nevada. Fallon and 'Star Valley'. Louie you know what we are talking about. Bill, you have a way different perspective. Be nice.

Congestion is not a problem in Payson, until you try to turn left during a holiday and everyone else is trying to go somewhere else. However, going to Lora's is magical as both you, Louie and Bill. (Bill's memories are not so romantic about that area)

Yes, I am a Nurse as well. Talk to me on my personal email if you want to know more. I don't think the others would be that interested. Who would have guessed I could graduate from college but I did... and had 2 kids in the process. I think I suffered from hyperactivity!!

Boys... don't even go there!! (Spray gun)

Would love to talk with ya Carol.

Vic

Hi Vic -
Sounds like you've been busy!  Good for you with the nursing.  Yes, I will write to you when I get back from Oregon. I'm going to visit my oldest Jason and his family.   I'll get back 7/5.  I'd love to talk to you.
I am leaving in the morning and  am packing as we speak.   lol!  I just got finished moving to a different place in Buckeye, so have been busy.
Talk to you later ~
Carol

Summers in Reno are the same as Payson. Elevation and Trees are the same, but I was there in December to cut Christmas Trees one year. Payson does not have Donner Pass to the west of you guys. Reno is probably colder than Payson in the Winter. I remember bundling up and running faster. I was bitchy to as I did not know why I had to drive 500 miles from Vegas to get a Christmas Tree. Well 496 miles one way {: Chevy Chase would have done it.

You caught the murderer is all that matters.

He was finally picked up by a lone state trooper in Idaho and is currently doing life without parole in Nevada.  In six months he killed five women, age 16-60, and wounded 7 more more, aged 14-35.  The 14 year old ended up a quadriplegic.  Only on the last victim was in Nevada.
