No self respecting high school blog from the Sixties would be complete with out a stream of recollections about cruising down main street. Whether it was Ned Schall pulling into the high school parking lot in his 64 GTO or Gayle Vesper's new yellow Mercury Cougar we were all styling big. I always wondered who was in the back of Kenny Imes panel wagon?. And where were they heading? And when Marco Tyler pulled in in his T-bucket roadster. Watch out. Step back.
If you were out on Saturday or Friday nite cruising Main in Mesa or Central in Phoenix you were part of the Sixties seen. Stopping for a malt at Bob's Big Boys or a burger and fry's at the UDI (University Drive In) or Uniburger were a part of who alot us were. And probably still are. When Greg Campbell and Dick Jones were out in there 63 Vettes with the split rear windows- Watch out girls! When Doug Yount, Tim Cooper (class of 70) and I were all rallying in our Austin Healy's we turned heads. Though it was usually the cops and not to many young ladies. If you have any fun cruising recollections chime in.
When Linda McDonald got her drivers license her Mom got her a car. A really old, old one. I don't remember the model but it was like a model Ford or something. So we decide to cruise Central and we pull into this parking lot. This really druggy looking guy walks over to the car and asks me if I want to store some crystal. I thought it was so odd that he had dishes that he needed someone to keep in a cupboard for him. We thought we were so cool! I loved the silver goblet at Bob's Big Boy! Good times!!!
