I met Reggie Jackson at Revco Drug store when I worked there.  He actually asked me for a date.  He said that Ed Grant sent him.  This was when he was playing ball but not Hall of Fame yet.  I turned him down because I thought he wasn't really very nice.  It also seemed weird to come into the place where I worked and just ask me out.
I met cutie Dan Majerly when he was playing for the suns.  He came to our school for a stay in school promo thing.  Saw Steve Nash at a play at Phoenix Theater this year.  Have a necklace that the famous Pete Shelton made for me in 8th grade :)

Paulette, I don't doubt that for a minute, except the part about Ed telling him. Reggie Jackson was actually a member of Ed's Dad's church on Southern when we got married in '73.  He was with the Oakland A's.  We lived in his condo on McClintock & Southern during the season when he was in Oakland.  Ed's Dad set it up because we had no money.  He'd come home periodically and we'd have to vacate for a couple of days.  Got all kinds of balls signed for friends, but nothing for ourselves (duh).  His liscense plate said 73MVP.  I was home alone one afternoon and the doorbell rang.  I opened the door to two men in suits, and simultaneously 2 others rushed in the back door.  They asked me who I was and said they were with the FBI.  Reggie had gotten a death threats if he played in the game.  He played anyway and we even got to see his championship ring.  Exciting stuff.

The day after Ed and I were married, May 26, 1973, we flew to Oakland for our Honeymoon.  Reggie left his black Grand Prix with a sun roof (first one I had seen) for us at the airport, as he was on a road trip.  We stayed in his Penthouse in Oakland for a few nights, which was the whole top floor of an apartment building.  You had to use a special key to gain access to his floor.  I remember walking in, going into the bedroom to unpack, and there was a rifle against the wall, next to the head of the bed.  Apparently he grew up in some pretty rough neighborhoods.
Then we flew to LA for a few days where we had dinner at Benihana with another famous person, Michael Rock Hutchings and his then wife Linda.  He's found us several times over the years.  Hope he does again before Oct. 24th.

Well, I met Miss America, Vonda Kaye Van Dyke in the sixties sometime at our church.  Then, through my occupation, I met Katy Sagal (Peg Bundy), Lou Gossett Jr. (he actually asked for my phone no. and address), Clint Eastwood and daughter, who now produces, Dave Mustaine and band members (Megadeath), Kirk and Mike Douglas, many other actors, actresses and band members.  and of course -- Louie is right!  we met Tommy Smothers when the choir went to San Francisco.

Robert Goulett's house man called my Vegas Bus. for a bid on his house. I did not get that account. But they had me start at his daughter's Lisa Goulett. I'm married, but she kept asking me to breakfast everytime I was there. So I hid (: and just let my crew do the place.

Then Fang the Base Guitar Player of Paul Revere and the Raiders came into Music Hut in Vegas and played my Electric Guitar, messing around in a Practice Session. I need to track him down and Sign that Guitar.

I don't think the entire Concert Choir went to see Smothers. I only remember about 10 of us.

I wonder when Pat Gill is going to put the Concert Choir up there.

I just had our son, Jeff, send this picture of he and Tiger Woods.  He worked for the PGA tour in Tournament Operations for 6yrs.  This picture of he and Tiger was taken after the U.S. team won the President's Cup in D.C. in Sept. of '02.  Ed and I were fortunate, and got to be there too.  He met and knew some great golfers over the years, but this one took the cake.  I remember it was very hot and humid during the tournament.  Freddie Couples was one of the last to come in, and was dripping in sweat after the final round.  I remember Jeff gave him his shirt as he came off the course, (he had a team shirt too) so he wouldn't look so sweaty in the picts.

How did that come about, thats cool.  Ford's pilot must have had  some sort of a Navy connection, I cant believe a fellow Air Force pilot would get drunk.  hee hee

Went into one of the local watering holes for a couple after work brews.  Sat next to this guy with a huge beard and starting shooting the bull.  He looked real familar, but I couldn,t  figure out where I had seen him before. About 4 beers into our conversation he introducted himself- Billy Gibbons of that little old band from Tx. ZZ Top. Great guy really down to earth

My in-laws are good friends with Paul Harvey Jr. and his wife.  PH Jr. wrote 'The Rest of the Story' for his dad's radio show.  We were visiting in Arizona in '03 and spent several nights discussing/arguing the US going into Iraq with them.  They're good people.

Paul Sr. passed away earlier this year, and while Paul Jr. was dispensing of his dad's stable of cars, he made my in-laws an unbelievable deal on Paul Sr.'s 1998 Mercedes Benz SLK, the cute little two-seater model.  The thing had only 4000 miles on it.  My mother-in-law has wanted one for years.  I think she's going to let me drive it when were down for the reonion.  Yeehaw!

In the seventies I often was told I looked like Jim Morrison, some even said I sounded like him (not singing).  I am damn glad the resemblence did not continue.  I definitely look better than he does today!  Although, there was a period of time where that possibilty was highly likely.  I am very glad I met some people who knew Bill W. and not Jim Morrison.  Strange, the paths we cross, the people we meet and the great and interesting places the journey takes us.

Glad to hear you're sober and still with us, Gary.

Reading what you wrote about Jim Morrison reminded me of a journalist I once knew well. His name was Steve Webb and he covered rock'n'roll. He told me that the reason he decided to do this was because of Jim Morrison, and this is the story about that: Steve Webb was about 2 years younger than we are, and he was in college in 1971, the year Jim Morrison died. Steve dated a girl whose older sister was the best friend of Jim Morrison's girlfriend. Steve said the night Jim died his girlfriend called her old college roommate. She was drunk and crying. She said that she and Jim had been in a fight and she had thrown a chair at him and hit him in the head. It calmed Jim down, and caused him to sit down, apparently dazed. A bit later he said he felt like taking a bath. He drew the bath water and got in the tub. The girlfriend found him at some point later, dead. She felt she had caused his death from hitting him with the chair, and she called her old roomate to get advice about what she should do.

Steve Webb said none of this ever came out, and you will recall that Jim Morrison's death was not investigated, and he was buried immediately afterwards. The girlfriend returned to the U.S. and died of a drug overdose within a year or so.

This is not an urban myth! This was relayed to me by Steve Webb around 1987.
