Hi,
I just finished looking through the 'Looking Back' section of your website. It sure brought back a lot of memories! I didn't attend Tempe High, as my family moved to the McClintock attendance area, but most of the kids I went to Broadmore School with are you guys!
I can't believe Denise still remembers the song of our Girls Club group the 'Yuccas'! I don't remember it, but I do remember sitting in Marsha Sowell's family room trying to think up a name for our group. Why on earth did we choose the name 'Yuccas'?
I also have fond memories of playing 'Kick the can' in the empty fields behind Diane Hull's house, and walking to Broadmor the long way through the ASU experimental farm.
I hope you won't mind if a Charger who really wanted to be a Buffalo crashes your high school reunion!
Ooops! I played 'Kick the can' in the empty lots behind Gari Ann Fuller's house!

Hi Gail,
I'm still in Tempe! I now live behind Tempe High School, which my daughter attended. I seem to remember that we couldn't come up with a name, and Cathie Woodward's Mom was able to paint Yuccas easily on our shirts. I don't think we really thought about how the word sounded!
McClintock also has a facebook website, but it's not as elaborate as Tempe High's site. I think they just got it started. We're also having a 40 year reunion, scheduled for October 23rd & 24th. I'm hoping to attend both yours and ours! How did time go by so quickly!
Sandy,
The picture Denise posted made me wonder where you are now. I am so glad you wrote. Why did we choose Yuccas?
Remember when we put on Cinderella for the talent show and you were Cinderella? We were all so jealous. I had to be an ugly step-sister.
This website is a kick. Does McClintock have one? Is your class having a 40 year reunion?
Hi Sandra,
Nice to hear from you. I too remember the 'Yucca' song AND marching in the street in front of Marsha's house in preparation for the parade. I can still hear Mrs. Sowell's high pitched voice yelling, 'Left, right, left'. I also remember going home with you after school one day and we had apple butter on saltines for a snack, and it was the first time I had apple butter. How random is that?
I think it's fun that THS and McClintock are having their reunions the same weekend. I wanted to suggest that you keep your eye on our website and see what developes for our Friday night event (it's still in the works). Our Saturday night event, however, is open to THS class of '69 classmates and their spouses/dates only. We have space and numbers restrictions and we're getting mighty close to capacity already.
Glad you too are enjoying all the memories shared and even adding some of your own.
Hi Diane,
It's really nice seeing pix of your and your beautiful family! I think our McClintock reunion is going to run pretty similar to Tempe's, with the alumni happening on Saturday with other events on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. With both reunions on the same week-end, I think we might see some 'party-hopping'. Please let me know what's happening for Tempe High on Friday night, or possibly Saturday afternoon.
'Linda' in our 5th grade class picture is Linda Pengilly. She was at Broadmore only a year, while her father completed some graduate work at ASU. She lived right across the street from me.
Does anyone have contact with Marsha Sowell? It would be really nice to have contact again with more of our old Girls Club crew!
By the way, you Buffaloes have the most rockin' discussion board I've every seen. I've really enjoyed 'lurking' around and reading your posts! Thanks for bringing back so many memories and giving me lots of giggles!
Has anyone talked about a combined Tempe High/McClintock function for one of the nights? It would be nice to see everyone from both sides of Rural Road. How about a keg of beer, or two, at Daley Park on Friday night? I;m sure we could get a permit from the city.
Hi,
I mentioned something to Marcie Rubalcaba about a combined Saturday picnic, but she already had reservations at the Shalimar. I'm totally up for any combined activity, whatever the time or place! You might want to check out Daley Park. Like so many of the other parks in the central Tempe area (I live very close to Clark Park), there are groups of homeless who hang out there. However, I'm sure that most of us who grew up in Tempe have many memories of playing in that park. So, maybe it would work, or maybe Kiwanis park????
Below is the link to the McClintock HIgh Class of '69 website. Since Mark Rispoli was kind enough to share your website with me, maybe some of you would like to help contribute to the online dialogue for McClintock!

Hi Bill and...
I just got the most recent newsletter from Marcie. The McClintock plan is to attend the football game on Friday night, with band alumni also attending. I'm wondering if after the game would be possible. What do you think?
Maybe a tailgater at Daley park before the football game? Then the McClintock gang can go onto their game and THS could hit a second location with the THS alulmni, probably Aunt Chiladas (Paulette's in charge of that).
Bill, I know Mary Bently has some info. on Daley Park. Yes, we'd need a liquor permit and some organizational skills, and to reserve the ramadas for Friday, Oct. 23rd if it's still available. If you call the city, THS grad, Jodi Malone ? (Marty Malone's sister) is head of 'tempe parks', I think. You up for the task?
Obviously, we'd need to run this all by the reunion committee, but in that we don't have a concrete plan for Friday night yet, maybe this could work.
Hi Bill (didn't we call you 'Billy' in elementary school?),
You may want to wait just a little while before getting the permit. I posted information about possibly having a tail-gater with you guys on the McClintock website and so far, no one has responded. Unfortunately, we do not have the amazing discussion board activity that you guys have, so I'm hoping that people are just on vacation, or haven't taken the time to look at the board. I'm quite sure that at least some McClintock guys would want to meet together, especially those that grew up in the areas between Rural and McClintock, as they would have attended elementary and junior high with all of you. But... I wouldn't want you guys to go to too much trouble if the only one to attend from McClintock would be me!

Sandy,
Oaky with me. I'll follow your lead. Diane, Vicki, Gail, Kelly, Greg Campbell, Greg Tate and Brent still call me Billy.

We have the big ramada at Daley park reserved from 4:00 PM until 10:00 on Friday 10/23. Tempe High, McClintock High, Class of 69 or whatever, everyone is welcome.
Hi Phyllis,
It will be so good to see both you and Jill!! (of course, you too, Billy and Gail!) Will Joanne be coming? I remember playing jacks with her on the sidewalk at Broadmor School. Please tell her hello for me!
I wasn't sure if you remembered Joanne and me! I know I remember you. You had a quick laugh and a mischevious sparkle in your eye. Hope to see you there. I'm still working on getting Joanne to come. She has epilepsy and says she doesn't remember much about what happened 'back in the day.' I keep telling her it will be fun anyway. I know she occasionally visits this site - I'll see if I can get her to read your kind words.
Hi Phyllis,
Of course I remember you and Joanne! I've greatly enjoyed reading all your postings on this wonderful discussion board. I'm sorry to hear that Phyllis has epilepsy, but I hope she doesn't let that keep her from re-connecting with childhood friends. As a adult, people have mentioned to me that I have a 'mischevious twinkle', but I didn't realize it was apparent when I was such an innocent child!
Take care,
Sandy

Sandy,
You were innocent? You always looked as though you had some secret you were privately enjoying! Maybe it's just your manera de ser (in Spanish it means 'manner of being') that made your eyes light up and cause you to smile.
And Joanne has epilepsy, not me. Poor Jo... she was hit in the head in Jan. 73 and the epilepsy was the result.
Sorry! I meant that I was sorry to hear that Joanne has epilepsy. I hope to see both of you in October. I'm really looking forward to seeing old friends from elementary and junior high!
Thanks Billy, for getting the ramada reserved at Daley Park and for getting things organized! Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help. I'm right here in Tempe also.
I'm with you on the Friday afternoon/evening Daley Park get-together. Can we do a pot luck? Or is this all posted somewhere and I just don't know where to look?
