Wow, Punky Greenlee! I wonder what happened to him. I do remember the day (actually I do not remember the day, just the incident) that he said he did not want to be called 'Punky' anymore.
Well, he LOOKS a little like Lynn Cunningham. Wonder what happened to him. He used to live over by Mike Mills and Patsy Simon, just north of 5th Street.
I Had junior high with Gene at McKemy. Got him in trouble and we both got swats from a P.E. teacher. Felt bad for him because he was half my size and the swat nearly lifted him off the ground. It really hurt him.
Lynn went there in the sixth grade. I was at Mitchell all the way thru, Mr Cox sixth, Mrs Forbes fifth, Mr Stone fourth We meet back up in jr high at Gilliland were he got kick out for talking back to a teacher. Larry you scare me you know way to much..... but you forgot that cute little Carolyn Shackelford who lived across the street.
Mike, nice to hear from you. Tulsa, huh? Do you like it? Are you going to make the reunion?
Carolyn lived on Roosevelt, about two houses north of 5th. Patsy Simon just up the street, opposite side. You and Lynn around the corner. It was my TDN paper route for two years. After talking with Steve Frizzell, it turns out he had the route just west of mine. It was a great time back then. Sixth graders with paper routes, riding across town on bikes. No helmet laws. It was safe. Yeah, there were some odd guys around town, like the guy we called Lips. And Tempe Beach pool when it was still big . . . don't get me started.
I'd like to get a little class warfare thing going here. Seems like all the hoidy toidy McKema kids are hogging the website. What about us Gillilanders? (Gillilandians?) At least our schools was NEW!
And Daniel Slyder, if you're reading any of these, please chime in. We haven't heard from you.
Should I take pictures of the stuff I made Larry {-: I am trying to think here. I used to walk around with Punky. Mostly hung with John and Mike Hudnall at Gilliland. I went by my nickname, I forgot this, but at Mitchell I was called Sonny. I demanded to be called Louis at Holdeman.
Question? who's families could have had a Super 8 Movie Camera or remember someone around school with a Camera. Has anyone still have their Gilliland Year Book. To get things out of like me. I will dig out my Year Book in the next week. Mostly can't remember where it is. But have it. Mary Bently or Brenda Koen should have some pictures.
Louis
I have both 1964 and 1965 Gilliland Roadrunner yearbooks out. How much do you want to see? I also found my Holdeman class picture from Mr. Tackett's class. I'll post that in the next couple of days.
Judy, I'd like to see Mr. Snider's class for 7th and Mr. Kay's class for 8th, and if there's a picture of the band with Mr. Beck, that'd be neat. Mr. Beck could play a different rhythm with each of this hands and feet, all at the same time.
I was in that class, too. She had a Mr. Potato head that was fun to play with.
I got to see and speak with her at her granddaughters house shortly before she passed. I believe it was in the very late '90's and she was also about that old. She was still mentally sharp and remembered me and several others in that class. Her niece, Joy Williams, is in our class.
