Jerry Kerr passed away yesterday.
This came to me through Mike Delamater who saw a post on Facebook from Jerry's daughter.
My memory of Jerry is that he was always smiling and he always had a funny joke or story.
When he walked into the 50th Reunion he had a big smile on his face and he joked about having the youngest 'date' there--his granddaughter!
Bill Kerr, Jerry's youngest brother, called me yesterday AM with the sad news. They hadn't told his wife Chris nor his mother yet. They both are in bad shape mentally, Chris with Alzheimer's and mom just old age. Jerry and I were best friends ever since we met in 1st grade at Kyrene Elementary. He was my best man. He was the brother I never had. I will miss that big smile, the infectious quirky laugh, and the 'Hey buddy' greeting everytime we met. Grateful I spent a couple of hours with them a couple of months ago, reminiscing over the last 64 years. Rest in Peace dear friend.
Jerry called me last year when he was reading the Tempe book to his wife and asked me some questions about some detail in the book. He was a fountain of information about certain parts of Tempe, and he certainly answered lots of questions I had when I was putting it together. I left him a text on his birthday in September but he never replied. SO sorry to hear he's gone. Such a bright light! I hope his passing was peaceful.
