We're in the mountains where it's cool, with the dogs and one of our daughters and son-in-laws. Going to a parade this morning of decorated golf carts, wagons, and bikes, then BBQing this afternoon. The fire risk is too high up here, so we'll watch fireworks on TV later tonight over the harbor in NY, and eat watermelon.
Grateful for our independence won so long ago, and our many blessings.
As I look out the computer room window (which I just had to close because freezing air was coming in -- it's about 57 outside right now), I see . . . complete overcast. Â The local saying here is that summer starts July 5th -- because 4th of July fireworks are always seen through the drizzle of rain. Â But, it's really, really, REALLY green, and once the sun does come out, it's one of the most beautiful places in the world. Â So, we plan to go over to a friend's house this evening, and watch fireworks from her deck, which has a panoramic view of Puget Sound and the fireworks in Edmonds, WA. Â Cheers, everyone in Arizona. Â Have a happy, sweaty, 4th of July.
I challenge you to feel just as patriotic when it's 110 in the shade and even a desert tortoise burrows in the daytime to stay out of the sun. Seriously, Happy 4th to everyone. I'm headed off to a cousin's pool party/ barbecue and we'll watch fireworks tonight from the safety and coolness of the couch.
Did you know that Benjamin Franklin's son was pro-British and this divided the two forever more once the Declaration of Independence was signed? That Franklin dude was certainly a model for all of us!
I'm celebrating the 4th here at my parents' lake house on the Chain O'Lakes in Waupaca, WI. It's my very favorite place in the world to be on the 4th. Fireworks are legal here so many many many people will be setting them off tonight. I'll sit out on the dock and watch them explode in all directions and reflect in the water. If history repeats itself, the neighbors on either side will be setting off rockets from their docks, and they'll pop right above me!!! I may even have to dodge a few embers!! The cannons will reverberate through the woods, and the mosquitoes will rush in mass to attack me!!! I do love the 4th!!! I hope everyone has a happy and SAFE celebration!!!
Larry...the picture you posted gave me good bumps. Lucky duck.

Judy...your description makes me feel like I'm there.
