Tommy, Great subject, and I've often wondered the same thing. Then I started doing genealogy and began to understand how Arizona was settled and by whom, when, etc. I was born in Phoenix at Old St. Joe's in Aug. 1951. My mother was born in Morenci in July 1932. Her dad was the baker in Clifton, the town down the hill. He was also a rancher and my sisters and I spent summers at our grandfather's ranch on Upper Eagle Creek. I never became a bone fide cowgirl like Vickie and Nancy, but there were summers I was saddling up or feeding calves. I now think of those times as the best part of being an Arizona native. I have attached a picture of Joanne and me the summer of 1962, the month before we moved to Tempe, standing in front of my grandpa's feed shed. The two boys with us were my grandpa's hired hands that summer, Warren and Lee Dunagan. Phyllis, Loved the picture of you, Joanne and the ranch hands. I wouldn't have recognized you from the picture, but Joanne looks just like I remember her when I met her in 6th grade at Broadmor. Good topic, Tom. It's interesting finding out everybody's history.
